Here’s what to feed your Shih Tzu

Shih Tzu always have an unpredictable eating behavior. As compared to various other toy breeds, this breed eats a large amount of food. Some Shih Tzu dogs are fussy eaters while others can eat with open heart and mouth of course. It is very important to feed your dog quality meals to make sure that your dog stays in shape and lives long and healthy. So here’s what to feed your Shih Tzu now that you own one! Usually a Shih Tzu is given food according to his age and activity level to boost up his metabolism and growth. The calorie intakes are different from different food and that needs to be kept in mind. Now comes the big question!

How often can you feed a Shih Tzu?

Well, it is very important to keep a check on how much and how often you are feeding your dog. They are usually prone to obesity and that is why these things must be taken care of. Make sure to not give them the facility of collecting food on their own as many times as they want. Maintain a time and limit. Usually a Shih Tzu should be fed 4 times a day and so stick to it and if you are planning to increase the number of times then decrease the quantity each time. Divide the entire meal of the day equally in the number of times you want to feed your Shih Tzu.

Ingredients to include in a Shih Tzu diet!

Since, these dogs are more likely to get obese than other dogs, too much carbohydrate in their diet is not suggested. Like all other dogs, these dogs also require a good amount of protein for healthy growth. Chicken meal, chicken, turkey, and eggs are the major sources of lean protein for a Tzu. Fish is also an important constituent of healthy meal for these dogs as it is also a good source of protein and healthy fats.
