How To Keep Your Dog Calm At The Veterinary Hospital?

Going to the Veterinarian near me always a troublesome thing for me because my Dog Max hates the Vet clinics. He is a Labrador and I can clearly tell you that training a Labradoris much more easier than taking him to the Pet doctor. The veterinarian near me is now fed up of my stubborn doggo and Max never misses a chance to bark at him. Though I feel pathetic about it, I never quit it and I have been working on how to control him for the past couple of days. So if you have a dog like me and are afraid of taking him to the Vet Clinics often then here are some tips that might help you calm your dog.

#1. Start with the car

Some dogs only go in the car to go to the vet’s office, so Max will suspect something is up as soon as you tell him to “jump in.” To remedy or prevent this, start taking your dog to fun places in the car like a park, a new place to walk, a lake, or the beach. You want your dog to associate the car with good stuff, not just the scary stuff. Then you can take him to the Vet clinics.

#2. Choose a vet that connects with your dog

If your furry partner doesn’t like going to the Vet clinics, then maybe you should realize that it is high time you should change your Vet. Try to find one that is at least understanding and willing to work with your scared pup. Just because it’s the vet your family has always used or even you’ve used with other dogs, doesn’t mean that he or she is a good fit for this particular dog. Vet Clinics are everywhere. Just find the right one.

#3. Visit the vet regularly

Visiting the Vet clinics regularly might help your dog get to know a little more about the Veterinarian and that can help you turn your dog and his Vet into friends. Problem solved! So why not take your dog there for regular checkups and for dog training so that he can get used to them?

#4. Bring treats

Just like the car, start reinforcing the vet’s office as a good place. You can then use this yummy, special only-for-the-vet-office treat to get your dog to stand on the scale and go into the examining room. My vet will give my dogs treats and uses spray cheese and freeze dried liver because they love it! After a shot or something surprising happens, follow with the treat if your dog will take it because vet clinics are really scary. If your dog has had great patience then maybe you should order some cool bandanas for your dog.

#5. Keep yourself calm

If you are nervous about how your dog is going to act at the vet clinics, this will likely increase your dog’s anxiety, too. Try some deep breathing before you go in, talk in your normal voice, and don’t be overly coddling. It’s fine to tell your dog that she is okay and pet her, but you don’t need to pick her up and repeat “it’s okay” over and over again. Your dog will begin to wonder if maybe there is something to be worried about. And we don’t want that!

These were some of the most important tips I could tell you about while taking your pets to the Vet clinics. So let me know in the comment section if you have ever had to face such kind of issues with your dogs at the vet clinics.
